I, too, think Camtasia is too expensive, but I really like it for a number of reasons, and might end up buying it. ![]() There are quite a few other free pieces of video editing software, but most of them have some kind of disadvantage in comparison to Shotcut (e.g., a larger footprint not as feature rich having to register at a website in order to download the software). I am suggesting Shotcut as an alternative because it has a pretty small footprint, and is continually being updated, and has a very helpful user forum (the reddit is pretty helpful, too). It is completely free (although in the Microsoft store it is something like USD $12, so avoid downloading it there).ĭaVinci Resolve is brilliant, but one of the few 'features' missing from the free version (which is 97% like the paid version) is the ability to export/render to H.265 and H.264, which are the common amateur video codecs, so that is a real disadvantage. ![]() If you do not want to use Camtasia because of the price, have a look at Shotcut. Therefore - my question indirectly is: Is Camtasia Studio still relevant and worth it in 2022? I am not planning on using CS for my whole life. Honestly, I think this is a ridiculous price to ask - I pay for plenty of software and I don't mind at all, as long as it's a monthly subscription. The only drawback is that if you want to use CS legally, your only option is to pay $350 as a one-time payment. I've been messing around with it past week (using the trial) and it seems I remember most things and am pretty comfortable to use it. It was pretty straight-forward and I think everyone can learn it. I remember I liked CS a lot because of its simplicity and user-friendliness. Serious question - I've used Camtasia Studio around a couple years ago and got pretty proficient with it (using the 'no-wifi' workaround to get it for free) - but since then I've never needed a video editing software, until now. ![]()
